Nicholas and Ashley met and married in Palmer Alaska. In 2003 Nicholas believed God was calling him to preach the gospel of Christ. Latter that year this couple moved to Oklahoma so Nicholas could attend Heartland Baptist Bible college. This was a rewarding and challenging time for both as well as Nicholas's first time living outside of Alaska.

Nicholas served as assistant pastor at Maplewood Baptist Church Martinsburg, WV. It was during this time God gave the call to serve in Tok.
